Self-Service Station now available downtown Lansing

SOS customers can renew license tabs in Austin Building Lansing-area customers have a new, convenient way to renew their license plate tabs now that a Self-Service Station is ready to serve them at the Austin Building in downtown Lansing. ''This is a handy way for those who work in and around downtown Lansing to take care of business on the go,'' Secretary of State Land said. ''Self-Service Stations offer customers a convenient option for speedy tab renewals. You can get your tab in just moments without having to take a number at a branch office. They're as easy to use as scan, pay and go.''' The new station is in the first-floor lobby of the Austin Building (formerly the Treasury Building), 430 W. Allegan St. It is available to the public from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. The Austin Building houses the Secretary of State executive offices and other non-branch office functions as well as some functions of the Treasury Department. The Lansing Area PLUS Office also features a Self-Service Station that is available 24 hours a day. The ATM-style Self-Service Stations allow people to renew their license plate tabs with a major credit or branded debit card without needing service at a Secretary of State office counter. Just scan your renewal notice, swipe your credit card and grab your tab. Self-Service Stations can be found in many branch offices statewide. Land introduced Self-Service Stations in 2005 as part of her initiative to revolutionize the branch office system and provide customers with more convenient services. More than 750,000 transactions have been recorded since that time, collecting $74 million in revenue. To locate a Self-Service Station, residents with Internet access can visit the Branch Office Locator at www.Michigan .gov/sos. Land reminds residents to check out the department's online services before visiting any office. For example, license tabs and watercraft registrations can be renewed online.
