AG-elect Bill Schuette announces appointments

LANSING (AP) -- Michigan attorney general-elect Bill Schuette says a current state Court of Appeals judge will serve as his chief legal counsel and the state's chief deputy attorney general will stay in that post.

The Republican and former state Court of Appeals judge announced Wednesday that Grand Rapids resident Richard Bandstra will be his chief legal counsel. Bandstra said Monday he planned to leave the Court of Appeals on Jan. 8 with four years remaining on his latest six-year term.

Schuette says Chief Deputy Attorney General Carol Isaacs will remain in her post. And Schuette spokesman Rusty Hills will serve as director of public affairs.

Schuette was elected in November and will be sworn in Jan. 1. He succeeds two-term Republican Mike Cox, who couldn't run again because of term limits.
