Manager pleads guilty to bilking nearly $1 million

DETROIT (AP) -- A manager at a suburban Detroit auto parts supplier has pleaded guilty to bilking nearly $1 million from his employer by submitting bogus expense reports.

U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade in Detroit said in a release last Thursday that between April 2007 and July 2010, Ribeiro Da Costa submitted false expense reports to Magneti Marelli North America in order to obtain fraudulent reimbursements.

Authorities say the U.S. resident and citizen of Brazil deposited the money in personal accounts, wired it to Brazil and spent it on personal expenses.

They say the engineer manager at Magneti's Troy office also pretended to work with Process Development, a vendor which he claimed was providing services in connection with MMNA's contract with General Motors of Mexico.
