LANSING (AP) -- Gov. Jennifer Granholm has signed bills aimed at streamlining the regulatory process for environmental cleanups and creating a new tax incentive to help small businesses in Michigan.
Granholm announced Tuesday that she's signed the legislation into law.
Eight of the bills are designed to prompt responsible parties to bring contaminated properties into compliance with environmental regulations. The changes align Michigan's process with federal requirements for liability protection to encourage more property transactions.
Granholm says the changes should speed up the time it takes to clean up contaminated properties.
Granholm also has signed a bill that allows an income tax credit worth 25 percent of an investment in a qualified small business. The investment would have to be at least $20,000 and must be certified by the Michigan Strategic Fund.
