DETROIT (AP) -- Michigan State football player Dion Sims and another man have been sentenced to a year's probation in connection with the thefts of laptop computers from Detroit schools.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Sims and Christopher Schambre also on Monday were placed in a program for youthful offenders. Their records would be expunged if they fulfill conditions of the court's probation.
They are required to perform community service, and Sims was ordered to remain in school.
The Spartans listed him as a sophomore tight end and suspended Sims from team activities this season. He pleaded guilty in the case.
Ten men were charged this year following an investigation into the theft of 104 laptops valued at $158,000. Three of the men were charged with conducting a criminal enterprise.
