DETROIT (AP) -- A 46-year-old Ann Arbor businessman has pleaded guilty to tax charges involving a failed downtown Detroit retail project.
The U.S. attorney's office says Andrew Park tried to evade paying taxes on $898,000 in income earned through Asian Village and two other companies working with the City of Detroit.
Park was owner and executive of the three ventures. He entered the plea Tuesday.
The government says Park lied in Internal Revenue Service documents and disguised income from the three companies. He faces up to five years in prison and a fine of $100,000.
The ambitious $4.5 million Asian Village project closed in 2008 after just one year. It promised Asian-inspired restaurants, shopping and entertainment along the city's riverfront.
Court records didn't indicate whether Park had a lawyer.
