Detroit Zoo plans 2011 'Wild Winter Weekends'

ROYAL OAK (AP) -- The Detroit Zoo will start the new year with some Wild Winter Weekends.

Officials at the facility say family friendly weekend events featuring children's music, zookeeper talks, games and crafts will be held in January, February, and March.

The Wild Winter Inuit Adventure scheduled for Jan. 8-9 will explore Inuit culture, teach participants about the Zoo's arctic animals and feature ice carving demonstrations. The Wild Winter African Adventure scheduled for Feb. 12-13 will include live entertainment, arts, crafts and games.

The Wild Winter Safari Social planned for March 12-13 will help attendees shake the winter "blahs" with hot drinks and cool treats, and include face painting, zookeeper talks and a scavenger hunt.

All programs will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
