Firm presents Labor and Employment Law Update
Nemeth Burwell's Raising the Bar, an educational series raising employer awareness of current issues in employment and labor law and presented by employment law firm Nemeth Burwell PC, will address developments in labor and employment law that will change certain aspects of how business is conducted in 2011 at its Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011 Labor and Employment Law Update.
Nemeth Burwell's Patricia Nemeth says as the world of work changes and adapts, so does employment law.
"The new EEOC regulations enforcing the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act (GINA) are a good example of the dynamic nature of employment law. GINA regulations impact the type of information employers can collect during a pre-employment physical or when implementing or modifying a wellness program. Many employers are already violating the new regulations and don't even know it," explains Nemeth.
In addition to GINA regulations, other seminar topics include:.
* Pending Supreme Court cases that will effect wage and hour regulations.
* Enforcing arbitration agreements in light of a new Supreme Court precedent.
* "The Cat's Paw" theory of liability - attempts to make employers liable for the discriminatory intent of non-decision makers.
* Liability for retaliation against third parties under Title VII.
* What the EEOC's litigation agenda means for managing leave of absence policies, conducting criminal background checks, and accommodating disabilities.
* The effect of the Supreme Court overturning 600 decisions by the National Labor Relations Board decisions.
* New directions for a new NLRB, impacting both union and non-union employers
The seminar will be offered Wednesday, Jan. 19, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Troy Marriott, 200 W. Big Beaver Road. Continental breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. The cost of the event is $60 per person and pre-registration is required. To register, e-mail Amanda Galletti at agalletti@nemethburwell.com or call (313) 567-5921.
