State - Blues start moving 3,000 workers to Detroit in May

DETROIT (AP) -- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan says the shift of 3,000 employees from Southfield to Detroit's Renaissance Center will start in May. The state's leading health insurer announced the move in July. Last Thursday, it said the first 200 employees making the move with start working at the Renaissance Center on May 2. The nonprofit company says it already has about 3,000 workers in two other downtown Detroit locations. Blue Cross says the move seeks to reduce long-term real estate costs and bring its work force closer together, as well as contribute to Detroit's redevelopment.
