Schuette names two more appointments

LANSING, MI-- Attorney General-elect Bill Schuette continued to announce key leaders in his new administration, today naming Senator Alan Cropsey (R-DeWitt) as his new Legislative Director, and re-naming John Sellek to be Communications Director. ''Because of all the challenges Michigan faces, there is no room for inexperience,'' said Schuette. ''These two outstanding individuals ensure that the AG's Office hits the ground running.'' Senator Alan Cropsey has a long and distinguished career in the Michigan legislature, where he has lead efforts to fight crime, protect victims and strengthen the state's judicial system. Cropsey was elected to the State Senate in 2002, after having first served there from 1983 to 1986. Previously, Alan Cropsey served in the State House from 1979 to 1982 and again from 1993 to 1998. Cropsey was named Legislator of the Year in 2003 by the Michigan Association of Drug Court Professionals; in 2004 by the Michigan Sheriffs Association; in 2006 by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police; and in 2007 by the Michigan Probate Judges Association. ''Very few individuals have the depth and breadth that Alan Cropsey has,'' said Schuette. ''He will be instrumental in forwarding our aggressive agenda through the legislature.'' John Sellek is the current communications director for the Attorney General's office and served previously as communications director for the House Republicans. He has also served in the policy offices of the House Republicans and Governor John Engler, and is a former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Michigan Speaker of the House. ''John Sellek has a thorough knowledge of the Attorney General's office. Just as importantly, he is known and respected throughout the Michigan press corps. John is a great addition to our team,'' Schuette concluded. Copyright © 2011 State of Michigan Published: Thu, Jan 13, 2011
