Secretary of State auto show display to feature online services

The Michigan Secretary of State's Office will highlight its upcoming online services at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson announced yesterday. The Secretary of State display in the Cobo Center concourse will feature a virtual tour of some of the new online services that will allow customers to change their address, renew their driver's license or state ID card, and order a replacement vehicle title. The new services also will offer an improved way to renew license plate tabs and watercraft registrations. Visitors also will be able to speak with a customer service representative. "Using the latest technology strengthens customer service by offering people more ways to conduct their Secretary of State business when and where it's convenient for them," Johnson said. "Now anyone with an Internet connection truly will have their own Secretary of State office available to them 24/7. I encourage people attending the Detroit auto show to stop by our display and see what's in store for them." Johnson also said that Michigan taxpayers benefit from the upcoming online services because Web transactions cost significantly less than those done at the branch office counter. The display is across from the Oakland Hall entrance to the main show floor and will be open during the show's public days, which run from Saturday, Jan. 15, through Sunday, Jan. 23.
