ROSEVILLE (AP) -- A Macomb County woman accused of drugging her 12-year-old son to make it appear he was a cancer patient will stand trial.
Carol Lynn Schnuphase waived her right Wednesday to have a preliminary examination. A judge in Roseville set a Jan. 31 arraignment in Macomb County Circuit Court.
Schnuphase is charged with second-degree child abuse and taking money under false pretenses.
Authorities say the 47-year-old drugged her son, and shaved his hair and eyebrows. A prosecutor says she received $7,500 from a church fundraiser, besides other donations. The money was used to pay bills.
Her son is in foster care.
Defense attorney Dominic Greco says Schnuphase didn't want her son to testify Wednesday.
