DETROIT (AP) -- A mobile museum containing more than 3,000 African-American artifacts has launched a national tour that includes several stops during Black History Month.
The Black History 101 Mobile Museum recently started its four-month tour, including a stop at University of Michigan's Dearborn campus. It continues Feb. 2 at Eastern Michigan University and sets up shop Feb. 4-5 at the Hip Hop Congress Summit in Ann Arbor.
The mobile museum, started by Detroiter Khalid el-Hakim, features Jim Crow-era artifacts, a Ku Klux Klan hood, autographed letters by Booker T. Washington and signed documents by Malcolm X and Rosa Parks.
The tour will wind through several states, including Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin and South Carolina.
Hakim began his collection 20 years ago while a student at Ferris State University.
