NOVI (AP) -- A man arrested following a shootout that killed his brother and an undercover Detroit-area police officer in the back yard of a suburban home has agreed to an extension of the deadline for his preliminary hearing on a first-degree murder charge.
Forty-eight-year-old Terry N. Bowling of Detroit appeared Wednesday in Novi district court, where a judge scheduled his examination for March 24. The hearing will decide if there's enough evidence for Bowling to be tried in Oakland County circuit court.
Forty-four-year-old David Bowling and Livonia police Officer Larry Nehasil died Jan. 17 in a shooting exchange after a burglary in Walled Lake.
Authorities say they think David Bowling used a gun stolen in the break-in to kill Nehasil after police cornered his brother.
