LANSING (AP) -- Some Michigan lawmakers are renewing the long-shot effort to make the state's Legislature part-time.
A measure that would amend the state's constitution and make the switch was introduced Wednesday by Republican state Rep. Dave Agema of Grandville.
Most states have part-time legislatures. But Michigan has a full-time Legislature.
Efforts to make it part-time have failed in the past. Advocates say it would save money and force lawmakers to be more efficient when conducting business at the state Capitol.
Agema's measure also would change Michigan's term limits law. It would allow lawmakers to serve no more than 16 years combined in the state House and Senate.
Current law restricts House members to three terms of two years each and senators to two terms of four years each.
