NOVI (AP) -- A former Michigan House speaker has been cleared of a charge related to carrying a gun in his home.
Novi District Court Judge Brian MacKenzie dismissed the charge against Craig DeRoche on Wednesday. The judge said DeRoche had a right to possess the weapon inside his home.
DeRoche was arrested in June on a misdemeanor charge for being intoxicated while carrying a gun at his home. Wednesday's ruling ends the case.
DeRoche was sentenced to six months' probation last year after pleading guilty to impaired driving in a separate case.
The Republican left the House after 2008 because of Michigan's term limits law.
