PONTIAC (AP) -- An agreement filed in Oakland County Circuit Court means Pontiac won't contract out police services to the sheriff's department.
The Detroit Free Press says the union representing Pontiac police officers planned to request an injunction Wednesday stopping the move.
But lawyers representing emergency financial manager Michael Stampfler agreed the union's contract with the city forbids contracting out police services.
The Detroit News reports the injunction request was dismissed by Circuit Judge Dan O'Brien after attorneys for both parties agreed to withdraw it.
Stampfler had proposed the move, and the county Board of Commissioners approved it last week. He has said the proposal would save the cash-strapped community $2 million annually.
