DETROIT (AP) -- A Florida man accused of running a decade-long international prostitution ring pleaded guilty to conspiracy last Thursday in federal court in Detroit, one of the cities where his business operated.
Greg Carr faces a likely sentence of 21 to 27 months in prison when he returns to court in May.
Prosecutors said his company, Miami Companions, arranged high-priced trysts in many large U.S. cities, Mexico, Colombia and Costa Rica from 2000 to 2010.
According to the government, Carr's operation did a lot of business in southeastern Michigan.
Carr, 44, told a judge that his job was to recruit women and arrange their travel for prostitution. In 2008, he said he transferred $300,000 to Panama and Costa Rica where the business had call centers.
"You knew it was illegal?" asked U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow.
"Yes," replied Carr, a Dearborn, Mich., native who attended Central Michigan University and now lives in the Orlando area.
Carr declined to comment outside court.
Four people have pleaded guilty, including Carr's ex-wife. Prosecutors last month agreed to share a computer disc with his attorney showing more than 30,000 names, many of them customers and their preferences.
While the business brought in bushels of money, Carr apparently doesn't have much left. Prosecutors said he agreed to relinquish any right to $14,000 in bank accounts.
