M-100 bridge over I-96 in Clinton County to close next week for reconstruction

February 8, 2011 -- On Monday, Feb. 14, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close the M-100 (Wright Road) bridge over I-96 in Clinton County for reconstruction until the end of July. The westbound I-96 entrance and exit ramps at M-100 will be closed at the same time the bridge is closed. A detour will be posted.
As part of this $5.2 million project, the bridge will be rebuilt, along with the ramps at the interchange. The improved safety and sight distance at the bridge will eliminate the need for the two traffic signals currently in use at the interchange. Both signals will be removed after the project is complete.
During construction, the posted detour route on the north side of the interchange includes Howe Road and Grange Road. On the south side of the interchange, the detour route includes Grand River Avenue.
After the bridge reopens to traffic at the end of July, painting will continue on the bridge through August. There will be shoulder closures on M-100 and single-lane closures in each direction of I-96 to accommodate this work.
The entire project is expected to wrap up by the Labor Day holiday weekend.
For up-to-date information on this project, go to the list of statewide lane closures at: www.michigan.gov/drive. Follow MDOT at www.twitter.com/MichiganDOT or www.facebook.com/MichiganDOT.
