Telephone number porting now available throughout Michigan
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) noted that telephone number ''porting'' is now available throughout the state of Michigan. Previously, it was available only in certain areas of the state. The MPSC issued an updated consumer alert explaining the issue.
Telephone number porting allows telephone customers to change landline, cellular and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone carriers within the same geographic area while keeping the same phone number.
''Starting today, telephone customers throughout the entire state of Michigan may keep their phone number under many circumstances,'' said Commissioner Monica Martinez. ''It is important, however, that customers interested in porting a telephone number understand the process required. The MPSC's updated consumer alert provides the information needed to make the transition.''
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
