Trial or $3,000? Deal offered in diamond dispute

SAGINAW (AP) -- A jeweler is offering $3,000 to a Saginaw woman to try to settle a lawsuit over the disputed disappearance of a diamond. Without a deal, Victoria Harris' case against J.B. Robinson Jewelers is scheduled for trial on March 1 in Bay City federal court. Harris says the Saginaw jewelry store replaced a 2.35-karat pink diamond with a cheaper one when her wedding ring was cleaned and enlarged in 2002. J.B. Robinson denies the allegation but offered a deal Monday after more than five years of litigation. The 64-year-old Harris tells The Associated Press she's heard nothing about the offer. She's acting as her own lawyer. A judge dismissed the lawsuit in 2009, saying there's not enough proof, but Harris persuaded an appeals court to reinstate the case. Published: Thu, Feb 17, 2011
