Parking ticket windfall drives Royal Oak revenue

ROYAL OAK (AP) -- Royal Oak officials say people paying up on parking tickets issued during an annual summer arts festival have driven up revenue from the event. City Manager Donald Johnson tells The Oakland Press that $50 parking fines issued during last summer's Ford Arts, Beats & Eats brought in $71,565 through January, increasing the city's net income to $91,980 from the event. About 1,900 tickets were issued, though some have been dismissed. Parking ticket revenue goes into the city's general fund. The annual Labor Day weekend event drew hundreds of thousands of people.
