Third annual "Canstruction®" announces teams
Design/Build competition to help end hunger on public display March 3-6 at West Michigan Home & Garden Show
GRAND RAPIDS, MI--Five teams of area architecture, engineering, and design firms, as well as design students, will compete in the 3rd Annual "Canstruction®" design/build competition in Grand Rapids. Teams will build incredible 10' x 10' x 8' canned food sculptures--on public display at the West Michigan Home & Garden Show March 3-6, 2011 at DeVos Place--to help raise awareness of hunger in our community. The cans will be donated to The Salvation Army's Booth Family Services, a member of the ACCESS Pantry Network.
On Thursday, March 3, from 3:00-9:30 p.m., opening day of the Home & Garden Show, the public is encouraged to donate new or gently used grocery tote bags (non-plastic or paper) to receive $2 off of Show admission. The bags will be donated to The Salvation Army.
Visitors are also encouraged to vote for The People's Choice Award on-site with a cash donation.
This year's team entries:
* Ferris State University AIA student chapter team
* Integrated Architecture
* Kendall College of Art and Design student team
* Owen-Ames Kimball Co. and GMB
* Via Design, Inc.
The 3rd annual Canstruction competition is co-sponsored by Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University and the law firm of Miller Canfield, supported by the International Interior Design Association Michigan Chapter, and endorsed by the Grand Valley Chapter of The American Institute of Architects and The Society for Design Administration.
