Several perjury-related charges against former circuit judge tossed

DETROIT (AP) -- Three of four perjury-related charges against a former judge stemming from a 2005 drug trial have been dismissed.
The Detroit Free Press reports the decision was made Tuesday in the case of former Wayne County Circuit Judge Mary Waterstone.
The judge in her case also ruled that Waterstone will be allowed to present evidence related to the remaining felony count to explain why she allowed the testimony.
Waterstone is accused of allowing perjured testimony at the major cocaine trial. She says she was protecting the safety of a paid police informant.
A former prosecutor and two Inkster officers also are charged in the case.
