Fire, safety departments in Mich. get $3.4 million

DETROIT (AP) -- Nine Michigan fire and public safety departments are getting more than $3.4 million in grants through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The funding from two programs announced Wednesday by U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin of Michigan will be used for equipment, training and other firefighting and EMS needs. The Southfield Fire Department is getting more than $2 million and the Redford Township Fire Department in Wayne County is getting nearly $1.2 million. The rest of the money is going to agencies in Barry County's Thornapple Township, South Lyon, Marion, Greenville, Mount Pleasant, Adrian and Marquette. Money going to Southfield and Redford Township will help hire, recruit and retain firefighters. ------------------ Online: http://www.firegrantsupport.com Published: Fri, Feb 25, 2011
