Lawsuit claims Feds are slow to produce Ferrari crash records

DETROIT (AP) -- A Michigan insurance company is suing the FBI and Department of Justice for failing to produce records showing how an agent crashed its $750,000 Ferrari. A federal lawsuit filed last Thursday in Detroit by Southfield-based Motors Insurance Corp. compels both agencies to produce records sought under the Freedom of Information Act. Court records say the F-50 was recovered in Kentucky in 2008 after being stolen from a Ferrari dealership in Rosemont, Penn., in Sept. 2003. The lawsuit says the FBI stored the seized exotic car until the thief was prosecuted. Justice officials said FBI Special Agent Frederick Kingston took a "short ride" with Assistant U.S. Attorney Hamilton Thompson on May 27, 2009, crashing the vehicle moments after leaving a warehouse. Justice officials tell The Detroit News they will review the lawsuit. Published: Mon, Feb 28, 2011
