State Bar offers program on Lawyer Trust Accounts
The State Bar of Michigan will present "Lawyer Trust Accounts: Management Principles and Recordkeeping Resources" from 9 to 11:35 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, at the State Bar's Michael Franck Building in downtown Lansing.
The half-day seminar will feature presentations on how to ethically manage lawyer trust accounts and effectively use forms, checklists, and guidelines to perform recordkeeping responsibilities. The seminar, which is open to lawyers and their staff, is an opportunity for lawyers to receive practical information and resources to ensure compliance with Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.15 and 1.15A. There will be an optional 30 minute "hands-on" session on billing and accounting software in the PMRC Educational Center immediately following the seminar.
Participants will also receive written materials prepared by the featured presenters: SBM Professional Standards Investigative Counsel Danon Goodrum-Garland, SBM Professional Standards Service Counsel Nkrumah Johnson-Wynn, Attorney Grievance Commission Senior Associate Counsel Rhonda Pozehl, and SBM Practice Management Advisors Diane Ebersole and JoAnn Hathaway. For further details, the seminar agenda is available on the SBM website at http://www.michbar.org/trustaccounts.cfm.
The registration fee is $50 for lawyers and $25 for non-lawyers. Payment and the completed registration form, which can be downloaded from the SBM website at www.michbar.org/trustaccounts.cfm, must be received by Tuesday, March 22. No "walk-in" registrations will be accepted. Participants can register online, fax the registration form to (517) 346-6365, or mail it with a check or credit card payment to:
