Life in prison for man in wife knife slaying

PONTIAC (AP) -- A 47-year-old Oakland County man will spend life in prison without parole for fatally stabbing his wife in their suburban Detroit home.
Circuit Judge Nanci Grant scolded Ellery Bennett at his sentencing Wednesday in Pontiac.
Lisa Bennett was killed Aug. 18, 2011, in their upscale West Bloomfield Township home. She's filed for divorce after 13 years of marriage.
Ellery Bennett was convicted in February of first-degree murder, which has a mandatory penalty of life without parole.
During an apology to her family in the courtroom, Ellery Bennett said he also suffered from Lisa Bennett's loss.
Grant countered that his 47-year-old wife wasn't lost and that he "took a knife and carved her up" as she slept.
Ellery Bennett's attorney tells the Detroit Free Press an appeal is planned.
