Applications for State Bar committee service due by Friday, May 13

State Bar of MIchigan President-Elect Julie Fershtman invites members to apply now for appointment to committees for the 2011-2012 bar year. Service on the committees is voluntary and occurs through an appointment process that begins with an application that must be filed by Friday, May 13. "Committee service is an excellent way that State Bar members can make a difference in the profession and in our system of justice," Fershtman said. "It provides an invaluable opportunity to meet and work closely with a diverse group of lawyers from all over the state, with different backgrounds and areas of practice. I encourage every member of the State Bar to consider applying for an appointment." Nearly 30 standing and special committees work to improve the administration of justice in Michigan by following the State Bar of Michigan's strategic plan. Appointments for the 2011-2012 bar year are expected to be finalized before Sept. 1. Applications can be submitted electronically at http://www.michbar.org/sections/nomination.cfm. More information about the committees can be found at http://www.michbar.org/generalinfo/committees.cfm. Questions about committees or the application process can be directed to Candace Crowley, SBM director of external development at ccrowley@mail.michbar.org or (517) 346-6319.
