Two convicted of murder in ambush slaying

SOUTHFIELD (AP) -- Two Detroit men have been convicted of murder in what police have described as the ambush slaying of a man at a suburban Detroit motel.
The Oakland Press reports that 28-year-old Kevin Huffman and 35-year-old James Randle both face lifetime prison sentences after jurors last Thursday convicted them of murder.
Prosecutors accused the men, along with two women, of helping to lure Venkata Cattamanchi of West Bloomfield to the EZ Rest Motel in Southfield in June with the promise of a romantic encounter with one of the women, whom he had met online. Cattamanchi was then robbed and killed.
Authorities say the women testified against the men as part of a plea deal. The women pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in exchange for their testimony.
An April 12 sentencing is scheduled.
