'House of horrors' costs woman her two sons
FARMINGTON HILLS (AP) -- A judge says a Farmington Hills woman cleared in the death of her husband lives in a "house of horrors" and has stripped her parental rights.
Oakland County Probate Court Chief Judge Linda Hallmark ruled last Thursday that 46-year-old Laura Johnson was unfit to share custody of her 8-year-old and 11-year-old sons with her ex-husband.
The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press and The Oakland Press of Pontiac report Hallmark said Johnson's insect-infested home is littered with pet waste and blood-covered surgical knives, and her neglect led to the children's obesity.
Lloyd Johnson was a 413-pound diabetic who collapsed in the home Sept. 20 and died Sept. 22 at a hospital. Autopsy results say he died of complications from an old boating injury.
Laura Johnson declined comment last Thursday as she left the courtroom.
