Lawyers and Judges Assistance Program to present April 28 event
Brighton Hospital and the State Bar of Michigan's Lawyers and Judges Assistance Program will present an "Evening of Enlightenment: Supporting Wellness in the Legal Profession" from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 28 at Suburban Collection Showplace (formerly Rock Financial Showplace), located at 46100 Grand River Ave. in Novi.
The "Evening of Enlightenment" is a banquet that will raise funds to benefit the Richard L. Steinberg Memorial Treatment Fund which was created to assist lawyers who are in need of mental health and/or substance use treatment but do not have available resources to pay for it.
Timothy D. Batdorf, an attorney and author of "The Lawyer's Guide to Being Human," and Martha D. Burkett, a licensed professional counselor and administrator of the State Bar of Michigan Lawyers and Judges Assistance Program, will serve as keynote speakers. They will discuss the relationships between the historical framework of the legal profession, self care, and professional responsibility. They will also explore the correlations between trauma, stress, and the deterioration of mental, physical, and spiritual health that can lead to mental health and/or substance use disorders among attorneys.
To attend the "Evening of Enlightenment," register by Friday, April 15. To register online or download a printable registration form visit http://www.michbar.org/generalinfo/ljap/home.cfm. For additional information call (810) 220-5518 or e-mail events@brightonhospital.org.
