Students to learn about county at Annual Youth in Government Day

On Tuesday, April 12, beginning at 8:30 a.m., the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will welcome students from across the county at the Annual Youth in Government Day as part of National County Government Month. Students will learn about Oakland County government and meet elected officials.

The program will kick-off in the Board of Commissioners' Auditorium, located at 1200 North Telegraph Road. These high school youth commissioners from Birmingham, Milford, Lake Orion, Pontiac, Farmington Hills, Southfield-Lathrup, Troy, and White Lake will stake their claim in county government, as part of the annual Youth in Government Day while getting insight from county officials.

"It is an honor to host various students from across the county, while keeping the more than 30-year tradition of Youth in Government alive," stated Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell. "This program helps to prepare area youth for future leadership in government. Students will learn about the primary responsibilities of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners which is the legislative branch of County government and other aspects of government."

Oakland County Commissioners participating in this year's event are: Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell, Board Vice Chairman Jeff Matis, Craig S. Covey Kathy Crawford, William Dwyer, Marcia Gershenson, Tim Greimel, Mattie McKinney Hatchett, Robert Hoffman, Janet Jackson, Christine A. Long, Gary McGillivray, Thomas F.
