Jackson AmeriCorps volunteers have joined together to organize the Jackson Community Volunteer Fair to increase awareness of service projects and to promote volunteerism in Jackson County.
The fair will be held at JCC's George Potter Center in Dove Commons near the bookstore on Tuesday, Ap. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"Regardless of age, race, or gender, we all can make a difference in our community," an organizer said.
The fair features a one-stop spot to inform and educate community members about volunteer opportunities open to them at a variety of agencies within Jackson County.
Participants will be encouraged to pledge to volunteer with the attending non-profit organizations and learn about how valuable their service and skill can be to non-profits.
United Way Volunteer Solutions, an online database that lists a wide variety of volunteer options throughout Jackson, will be available for individuals that would like to learn of other opportunities.
There will be an ongoing raffle for those attending. Attendees can have up to three entries, earned by completing the Volunteer Fair Passport, creating a profile with United Way's Volunteer Solutions, and by pledging to volunteer with one of the participating non-profits at the Jackson Community Volunteer Fair.
Participating Agencies
United Way of Jackson, South Central Michigan American Red Cross of South Central Michigan, Jackson Community College, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jackson County, Jackson Interfaith Shelter, Greater Jackson Habitat For Humanity, Cascades Humane Society, Michigan Theatre of Jackson , and Michigan Primary Care Association, Ella Sharp Museum, Dahlem Center
