Cultural immersion focus of WLAM Annual Meeting

The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) is pleased to announce its 93rd Annual Meeting, and Jean King Leadership Award Reception for Friday, April 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mt. Pleasant. This year's meeting includes a cultural immersion program where attendees can learn about Tribal Court and experience a number of Native American traditions. Attendees will enjoy a women's drum group performance, native cuisine and a visit to a nearby cultural center. The Tribal Court Discussion will be led by incoming WLAM President and Tribal Court Judge Angela Sherigan, Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. Sherigan will also join her sister, Kristen Stone of Wojnecka & Sherigan PC, to discuss the Indian Child Welfare Act. Sherigan will be the first tribal judge to lead WLAM as its president. Also presenting at the program will be: --Julie Fershtman, incoming president of the State Bar of Michigan and shareholder of Foster, Swift, Collins, & Smith PC. Fershtman will offer advice and suggestions for how to market yourself to corporate clients as both a solo practitioner and a firm. She will also discuss the State Bar of Michigan President's Advisory Group on Diversity and Inclusion. --Elizabeth Jolliffe, owner of Your Benchmark Coach. Jolliffe will lead a discussion regarding social media and your image. --Jennifer B. Salvatore, partner at Nacht &Associates PC. Salvatore will present a legislative update. The Jean King Leadership Award honors and recognizes lawyers who exemplify leadership white furthering WLAM's mission to secure the rights of women in society and to advance women in the legal profession. Past award recipients include King herself, Nancy Diehl, Kim Cahill, Deborah LaBetle, and Kathleen Bogas. This year's recipient is Salvatore who has dedicated herself to the support of women and works tirelessly as a leader in the legal community for gender equity issues. Cost for the event is $60 for WLAM members ($75 after April 15), $75 for non-members ($90 after April 15), $40 for law student ($50 after April 15), and $30 for the luncheon program only.
