Women's Exchange, WLAM plan joint gathering April 21 at Art Center

By Sheila Pursglove Legal News The Women's Exchange of Washtenaw (WXW) and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Washtenaw Region (WLAM) will enjoy a "Just-in-Time-for-Spring Garden Party" from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 21, at the Ann Arbor Art Center, 117 West Liberty Street. Garden party participants can rekindle old friendships and make new ones, and enjoy food and wine while browsing the art exhibits. The cost is $15. To RSVP, email marketing@wxwbusiness.com or visit http://wxwbusiness.com. "When the WLAM ladies called me with the idea to team up with WXW on an event, I thought it was a brilliant idea," said Carrie Hensel Managing Partner, Inner Circle Media, and co-founder of WXW. The organization hosts unique events where women business leaders talk through issues, share experiences and ideas, and form lasting connections. "We suggested the April event because WXW networking events are so well attended and it would be a good way for WLAM members to meet a lot of local women business leaders in the casual, creative setting of the Ann Arbor Art Center. "Hopefully, this is just the start of an ongoing collaboration effort between WLAM and WXW to connect and inform the region's women's business community," she said. WLAM Washtenaw Region president Angela Walker and WLAM membership chair Elizabeth Jolliffe, attorney and owner of Your Benchmark Coach, approached Hensel a few months ago to explore hosting a joint event and agreed the WXW annual spring open networking event would be a great event for collaboration. "Bringing women lawyers and women business leaders together for a Spring Garden Party seems like a natural way to plant seeds for success in Washtenaw County," Jolliffe said. "Even if we have more April showers, everyone will be dry in the Art Center! It will be a fun, relaxed event, so we hope everyone will mark their calendar and plan to be there." WLAM is excited to team up on an event with WXW, Walker said. "This will be a great opportunity for women lawyers to form connections with women business leaders in our community. "Also, many of our WLAM members are also small business owners, and will benefit from sharing their experiences and learning from other female business owners across a wide range of professions." Founded in 1909, the center is housed in the historic Walker Building, a former carriage factory that has been preserved and renovated to include exhibition galleries, retail space and five instructional studios.
