Michigan Theatre ready to 'Amp It Up' April 23

The Michigan Theatre of Jackson will present Amp It Up on April 23. This is an all day and night music festival to raise funds for a new sound system at the Theatre. The doors will open at 11 a.m. with the first band starting at noon. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Included in the line up for the festival are local, regional and national bands. The bands are performing free of charge so that all proceeds will go towards a top of the line sound system. "As our live music series continues to grow it is a necessity for us to have a system that will accommodate the needs of the bands," explains Alison Loveday, executive director of The Michigan Theatre. Since the first of the year the Theatre has hosted eight concerts including Battle of the Bands, Echoes of Pink Floyd and national touring acts Pop Evil and Nonpoint. "There is a definite need and desire to have a downtown venue for live music, we are just glad to be part of it," she said. Bands scheduled to perform at Amp It Up include: Traverser, Blackstone Masquerade, The Vital Tones, Black Hoodi Records, Green Light Effect, Special Beam Cannon, Destination Blues, Bruce Oat and the Sexy Offenders, Stoney Green, VHS Jazz Trio, The Escorts, Shadow, Mutilation Unborn and Jacktown Freak Show. The event is brought to you in part by Rock Ur Face Entertainment and Prison City Entertainment. Tickets can be purchased at the Theatre office located at 124 N. Mechanic Street or by calling the Theatre office at 517-783-0962. "Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the most up-to-date movie and concert information," a spokesperson said.
