Fair Housing Center appreciates legal support

The Fair Housing Center of Metropolitan Detroit (FHCMD) presented its Fourth Annual Fair Housing Attorney Appreciation Awards Reception on Wednesday, April 6, at the Detroit Historical Museum.

This year's honorees included U.S. District Court Judge Julian A. Cook Jr. (far left), Eastern District of Michigan, Assistant U.S. Attorney and Director of the Civil Rights Unit for the Eastern District of Michigan Judith Levy (cetner), and attorney Steven Tomkowiak (far right), FHCMD cooperating attorney and instructor at the National Fair Housing Academy.

On hand to congratulate the honorees were (left to right) FHCMD Executive Director Cliff Schrupp and attorney Noel Saleh.

The FHCMD has recognized that without the assistance from members of the legal profession fair housing laws would be nothing more than statements of good intention.

Thanks in large part to the persistence of members of the legal community, fair housing laws are being enforced, persons who have suffered from the unlawful discrimination by some housing providers are recovering some of their damages, and housing providers are learning that fair housing laws need to be respected and followed.
