Raising the Bar Series to discuss dealing with problem employees
Nemeth Burwell's Raising the Bar, an educational series raising employer awareness of current issues in employment and labor law and presented by Detroit-based employment law firm Nemeth Burwell PC, will address "Strategies for Dealing With The Problem Employee" at its Wednesday, May 11, seminar.
Nemeth Burwell's Patricia Nemeth says the workplace is dynamic and reflective of society in general, but issues such as chronic complaining, harassment, inadequate supervision, substance abuse and crime become an employer's issue when they happen in the workplace.
"An employer has to be vigilant to keep the workplace productive and safe, and a challenging employee can disrupt the harmony needed to ensure safety and productivity," explains Nemeth. "This session of Raising the Bar is going to address how employers can handle myriad 'problem employee' issues present in the workplace today."
Topics will include:
* Identifying the problem employee.
* Minimizing the effects of substance abuse.
* Strategies for reducing medical leave abuse.
* Supervisors who refuse to supervise.
* Supervisors who micromanage.
* The Complainer: Is this something I'm required to investigate? To report?
* When an alleged workplace harasser becomes the victim.
* Fighting crime in the workplace.
The seminar will be held on Wednesday, May 11, from 8:30 until 11 a.m. at the Troy Marriott, 200 W. Big Beaver Road. Continental breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. The cost of the event is $60 per person and pre-registration is required. To register, e-mail Amanda Galletti at agalletti@nemethburwell.com or call (313) 567-5921.
