Lease is new twist in home-invasion case
BATTLE CREEK (AP) -- If your name is on the lease, can you be charged with home invasion?
The Michigan appeals court is ordering a Calhoun County judge to reopen the case of Ronald Jex, who pleaded no contest to home invasion in 2004.
Jex was accused of taking possessions belonging to his former girlfriend, who shared the home with him before he moved out. The 32-year-old Jex admits he didn't have permission to enter the Bedford Township house but says he didn't need it because his name was on the lease.
Jex is acting as his own lawyer in the case while housed at a state prison in Carson City.
