Oakland Pet Adoption Center to host low cost vaccination clinic

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson announces that the Oakland Pet Adoption Center at 1700 Brown Road in Auburn Hills will host a low-cost vaccination clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7. Rabies and distemper vaccinations will be available for $7.50 each or $12.50 combined. The clinic is also an opportunity to purchase a dog license before the June 1 deadline when dog licenses will go from $7.50 for a spayed or neutered dog and $15.00 for an unaltered male or female dog to $30 for all. In addition, senior citizens will receive a 25% discount on dog licenses before June 1. Afterward, seniors will also pay $30 for a dog license. "Oakland County is responsible for dog control in a majority of Oakland County communities," Patterson said. "Getting your dog vaccinated against rabies is not just a matter of law; it is for your dog's and family's wellbeing." Patterson also said that Oakland County dog licenses are now available at the clerk's or treasurer's offices in Ferndale, Clawson and Pontiac. Licenses will be available in Troy later this spring. Within the State of Michigan all dogs four months and older must be vaccinated for rabies and licensed through the county or city of residency. Deadlines vary with some cities but for the Oakland County Animal Control service area, the deadline is June 1.
