Judge makes no decision on hit man lawyer's testimony

DETROIT (AP) -- A judge says he needs more time to decide whether to allow a lawyer to testify that a Detroit hit man admitted to four murders that were pinned on someone else. Wayne County Judge Brian Sullivan said Tuesday that he wants more input from lawyers in the case. He is considering a bid by 18-year-old Davontae Sanford to undo his guilty pleas to the four 2007 murders. Sanford says he falsely confessed to the killings to satisfy police. Sanford's lawyers want Sullivan to allow attorney Gabi Silver to testify that her former client, Vincent Smothers, told her he was responsible for the killings attributed to Sanford. Smothers is in prison for eight other slayings and has waived his attorney-client privilege. Prosecutors say Silver's testimony would be hearsay. Published: Thu, May 12, 2011
