Straker Bar's Corporate Counsel Breakfast to look at 'Maintaining Diversity'

The D. Augustus Straker Bar Association announces the Corporate Counsel Breakfast "Maintaining Diversity as Part of the Strategic Plan." planned for Thursday, May 26, at the Westin Hotel located at 1500 Town Center in Southfield. The program begins starts with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 10 a.m.
The program's list of participants include Marcia Goffney, Diversity advocate, adjunct professor and former general counsel Yazaki Automotive; Maurice Jenkins, partner, Jackson Lewis; E. Christopher Johnson, director, Graduate Program in Corporate Law and Finance at The Thomas M. Cooley Law School, formerly vice president and general counsel at GM; Alison R. Nelson, managing counsel, Ford Motor Co.; Roshunda Price, vice president, assistant general counsel and assistant secretary of VHS of Michigan, Inc.; Harold Pope, partner, Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, & Weiss; and Richard T. White, senior vice president, secretary, and general counsel for AAA Michigan.
The Corporate Counsel Breakfast Chairperson and Straker Board Member Kymberly Kinchen states that the program is truly in line with Straker's mission of increasing minority representation in the legal profession, supporting and encouraging legal practice opportunities for minorities, and facilitating equal justice for underserved members of the Oakland County community.
Angelique Strong Marks, committee member and general counsel of Behr America, encourages in-house and outside counsel to attend the program and participate in its two-fold purpose of 1) promoting opportunities for in-house counsel to network with diverse attorneys who practice at law firms, and 2) promoting the principal that it is important for law firms to maintain their commitment to diversity and for in-house counsel to maintain their commitment to retain diverse outside counsel.
The program is free to members of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association and $35 for non-members. To register for the program, send an e-mail to Kymberly Kinchen kkinchen@clarkhill.com no later than Tuesday, May 24.
