Oakland County Auction sees big rise in sales

Oakland County's Annual Spring Auction had a significant rise in sales from previous years this past weekend--totaling $472,000, of which $450,000 was from vehicle sales. That was despite attendance being down one third due to weather. Items up for bid included automobiles, computers and electronics, office items and tools confiscated during criminal investigations or previously owned by county government. The auction was held at Oakland County's Vehicle Operations Building in Pontiac. "My staff at Central Services works diligently every year to make the Oakland County Spring Auction a success," said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. "This year they were able to increase sales more than $100,000 in a tough economy." The sales totals for the Oakland County Spring Auction in recent years are: * 2011: $472,000 * 2010: $342,000 * 2009: $362,000 * 2008: $318,000 * 2007: $397,000 "When the public comes to the auction, they know they can get a good deal on used government vehicles which have been well maintained," said J.
