Man gets life in deaths of woman and her son

MOUNT CLEMENS (AP) -- Relatives of a woman and her 3-year-old son killed by her fiancé during a drunken rage told a judge at the man's sentencing how much the brutal slayings have affected their lives. Todd Pink was told Wednesday in a Mount Clemens' courtroom that he will spend the rest of his life in prison following his conviction in the shooting death of Carrie Seils and the stabbing death of her son, Skyler. Pink "has put a hole inside my heart that has died and will never be healed again," Skyler's father, Chad Seils read in a statement before Macomb Circuit Court Judge Richard Caretti. "I still feel numb ..., like the bad dream I will never, ever awake from," Chad Seils said. "Todd Pink is pure evil and shouldn't have any privileges the rest of his life." Pink, 38, of Clinton Township, was found guilty last month of first-degree murder in Carrie Seils' and Skyler's May 2010 slayings. It took a jury less than a half-hour to reach its verdict. Seils' then-5-year-old daughter, Heavyn, also was stabbed. James Pagano, a friend of Carrie Seils, was shot. Defense attorney Kendall Sailler had argued his client intended to kill himself in front of Seils at her home but "snapped" or "flipped out" when confronted by them. On Wednesday, Caretti told Pink that he butchered an innocent boy. "You are truly an evil man," Caretti said. In his own statement to the court, Pink apologized to his family and said he was looking forward to an appeal. "Carrie, Heavyn and Skyler are in my prayers every day and will not be forgotten," Pink said. Published: Fri, May 20, 2011
