Judge gives life term for serial strangling 'monster'

PONTIAC (AP) -- A judge has called a convicted serial strangler a "monster" before sentencing the Ohio man to the mandatory life without parole for the 1968 killing of a southeastern Michigan woman.
Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren said last Thursday that "justice is served" and says "the Seventh Circle of Hell" now awaits Nolan R. George.
Last month, the Hamilton, Ohio, man was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of 36-year-old Gwendolyn Perry of Pontiac. Authorities say George strangled women with their undergarments.
George told the judge he didn't wish to speak before the sentencing.
George was freed in 1982 after 12 years in prison for killing 22-year-old Frances Brown of Lake Orion. He also served time in Ohio for strangling a woman and is suspected in other attacks.
