Man cleared in 'suave senior' capers sues police

MOUNT CLEMENS (AP) -- A 75-year-old man who was cleared of charges he was a smooth-talking con artist who stole from elderly women in the Detroit area has filed a lawsuit against police. Larceny charges against James Legenzoff were dismissed in 2009. He says he was misidentified as the man police called the "suave senior." The Macomb Daily and the Detroit Free Press report this week that the Sterling Heights man has sued six Detroit-area departments in federal court. Lawyers for the police departments insist detectives did nothing wrong. Legenzoff was accused of befriending women and persuading them to let him into their homes, where he stole their money. He was accused in incidents in communities including St. Clair Shores, Fraser, Roseville, Harper Woods, Canton Township and Redford Township. Published: Tue, May 24, 2011
