Low sodium-based insanity defense gets withdrawn in murder

MOUNT CLEMENS (AP) -- An insanity defense based on an untreated low sodium condition has been withdrawn for a Macomb County man accused of killing his 62-year-old mother after she refused to give him money for drugs. The Macomb Daily in Mount Clemens reports that Charles Foresi's lawyer told a judge last Thursday that an expert could not agree the condition could have led to a state of insanity. Attorney Timothy Kohler said last month that the 39-year-old Foresi experienced brain dysfunction because he suffered from hyponatremia, or a lack of salt in bodily fluids outside the cells. Foresi is charged with first-degree murder. A trial is scheduled for June 21. Mattie Foresi was stabbed 43 times last August in the home they shared in Roseville, just north of Detroit.
