First ever outdoor Mobile Clerk's Office featured at Farmington Farmer's Market
The Oakland County Clerk's Mobile Office is heading to the Farmington Farmer's Market on Saturday, June 11, Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Bill Bullard Jr. and County Commissioner Bill Dwyer announced in a joint statement Tuesday.
Anyone who lives in the area or surrounding communities is welcome. The Mobile Office will be available from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in a tent provided on site by the Farmington Farmer's Market.
The Clerk's Mobile Office is done on a monthly rotating schedule to bring Clerk and Register of Deeds services into communities. This will be the first time it has appeared at a public event of this type. Clerk Bill Bullard thanked Commissioner Dwyer for working to make this Mobile Office event possible.
"Bill Dwyer is an extremely hard working commissioner who really knows his community and is always looking for ways to benefit the taxpayers of his district," Bullard said. "This is a great idea and it is something we will work to duplicate in other communities."
Dwyer praised Bullard as an innovative and conscientious public servant. "Too many people in government object to new ideas and say 'We've never done it that way before;' but when Bill Bullard hears of something that can benefit Oakland County residents, he just asks 'How can we get this done?'"
The Mobile Office is a no-frills operation. Employees set up shop in borrowed space with laptop computers and printers so they can provide customers with on-the-spot copies of birth certificates, death certificates and other public records. Normal copy fees apply. Citizens can access many services, including:
* Certified Copies of Birth, Death and Marriage Records.
* Marriage License Applications.
* Notary Public Applications.
* Registration of Assumed Names and Co-Partnerships.
* Military Discharge Forms.
* Passport Applications & Photos.
* Copies of Property Records and Deeds.
* Oakland County Circuit Court Records.
* Identity Protection Information.
* Voter Registration.
* Absentee Ballot Application Forms.
* Concealed Pistol License.
"Our office in Pontiac can be a long way for people, especially with gas prices today. We've put most of our services on our website, but we realize that there are people without Internet access or those who may be more comfortable with personal service. And there are some services that are just better done in person. In an effort to reach out to all our communities, our Mobile Office pilot project will offer convenient one-day stops in each of the western, eastern, northern and southern portions of the county," said Bullard.
He stressed there is no additional expense associated with the Mobile Office because resources, including employees and computers, are simply being redeployed in regional locations.
"Our job is to provide citizens the best possible service at the lowest possible cost, whether we are serving them in their community, or at our main office in the Oakland County Courthouse in Pontiac."
Dwyer will be attending the Mobile Office at the Farmer's Market and conducting his community office hours at this time, rather than his usual 1st Saturday of the month meeting at the Big Apple Bagels.
