The Jackson Area Manufacturers Association, a member of The Enterprise Group, has announced that its academy for manufacturing careers is launching "Hot Rod U" aimed at high school students.
According to a JAMA spokesperson, participants will gain an in-depth, hands-on introduction to body work, chassis, motors, automobile interiors, and various automotive systems.
A tour of the "Ididit" manufacturing facilities in Tecumseh will be included.
"This is the first in a series of summer, after school, and weekend workshop opportunities for 9th-12th grade high school students culminating in the complete design and build of an actual full-blown, totally awesome custom Hot Rod," the spokesperson said.
Who: Students going into 9th-12th grade this fall with an interest and aptitude in mechanical hands-on learning.
Where: The Auto Repair Lab at the Jackson Area Career Center, 6800 Browns Lake Rd, Jackson, 49201.
When: August 15th-19th, 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Cost: $149 per student, $119 each for students who have previously attended/are attending "Machining U" or "I Can Make It Camp;" $129 each for students who have previously attended or are attending a local Shop Rat program.
Scholarships may be available to offset the cost for qualifying students.
"We're also looking for corporate and organizational sponsors for this program," the JAMA spokesperson added.
